Electronic Surgery

We had a nice easy day today. Went through two locks and about 30 lift bridges. Each lock/Bridge Master complimented us on the boat and were quite surprised at her size. The maximum height on the canal is 15 feet 6 inches, we are 14 feet 8 inches. I found myself ducking under some of the bridges. We left Lockport at 7:30 and arrived at the Village of Perrinton at 4:00. Beautiful docks with full power, pump out, restrooms, showers, and laundry available. More importantly there was an ice cream shop less than 50 feet from our dock!!!

We did have one small problem with the VCR/DVD. When I went to eject the tape from last night the damned thing wouldn't power up, period, it was dead. This may not seem like a big deal but with my Dad and Dave on board it is a BIG DEAL. I performed some electronic surgery and got it working, I just hope it makes it through tomorrow night. My brothers will be bringing a new machine with them when they arrive at Oswego Wednesday for the next leg of the trip.

Morning in NY.

Typical home on the Canal.

Hard time waking up.

The official "Ships Lighter" obtained from the one and only, authentic, Zippo Lighter Museum in Bradford, PA.

The cross roads of the Erie Canal and the Genesee River.

The VCR after surgery. Believe it or not the damn thing works, we just have to be careful working the controls as they are situated next to live power.

  2. You better be careful Dick, my understanding is Oswego is known for its populous and aggressive leach population. Is Tucker's passport red-flagged too? It looks like you're having a great trip.
