Air rescue...

The last thing I expected to see today was an air rescue from a military helicopter, but that is exactly what we saw from "Whatever It Takes" outside West Point Academy on the Hudson River.
As we rounded the bend on the Hudson where the Academy is located, a military helicopter came swooping down to about 50 feet above us, hovered there for a moment, then flew to the edge of the river where it lowered a cable and lifted someone through the air into the helicopter. This was a first for my sailing adventures.

We cruised 66 miles today and docked in Newburgh, NY at the Front Street Marina, arriving at a comfortable 3:15. The Newburgh Bay was full of fishing boats and we had to idle the last 3 miles. After docking we learned the Striped Bass run is in full swing and the state record Striper was caught right here yesterday (60 lbs plus). Another exciting day on "Whatever It Takes".

Click on the youtube address below to experience passing a barge with "Whatever It Takes" on a narrow stretch of the river.
