EELS, CRABS, and BIG BLUE

Well Denny finally caught something late last night. I had dropped a line over the side of the boat baited with bacon (only bait we had). Denny reeled the line in just before bed and pulled up an eel (now known as Ernie, the ships eel). Today Val and Denny added to our catch total by netting crabs off the dock in Norfolk.

The trip to Norfolk was full of surprises. Last fall I sailed the Dismal Swamp route so this time I choose the Virginia Cut route. There were multiple bridges to wait for and I was really surprised when we came to a lock. The crew did fine and Val was thrilled she got to experience a lock passage.

We were followed the entire day by a 115 foot yacht  which we named "Big Blue". We spoke with the crew of "Vivere" and they gave us a few details. The ship holds 12,000 gallons of fuel, burns and average of 160 gallons per hour, cost approximately $10 million, and has a crew of 4 with a captain. They were delivering the boat for the owner. Glad we could show her the way to Norfolk.

"ERNIE" the ships eel.

Waiting for a drawbridge with a flock of sailboats.

If a dog fell overboard there's no doubt he would be "Gator Bait".

Jackie Onassis stopped by to play with Tucker.
