The Perfect Storm.

It is said "There are smart sailors and there are brave sailors, but there are no smart brave sailors". The first named tropical storm of 2012 is now located 100 miles south of Norfolk and there is a severe line of thunderstorms in the Atlantic just east of Norfolk while a stalled high pressure front is located over the mid west resulting in 20 to 30 mph northeast winds blowing over Chesapeake Bay. The end result is 6 to 9 foot waves in the Bay outside Norfolk. I consider myself a smart, cowardly sailor. Looks like we will be staying put at the Tidewater Marina until Monday. Today I walked the Historic area of Portsmouth, baked a ham, and caught a few fish off the back of the boat.

I still expect to reach the Erie Canal by the beginning of June.

The following pics are from the Historic District of Portsmouth VA. I was able to walk to the district from our marina.

Jeff's Sea Trout.

My eel is bigger than Denny's.

Hilton Head is mile marker 559 on the ICW and Norfolk is zero. We actually traveled around 600 miles with the side trips to various marinas. Hilton Head is spitting distance from the Georgia , SC border. We went north through SC, NC, and VA. This trip we took the Virginia Cut through the Outer Banks of NC (by Kitty Hawk).
