Today our family grew by four new paws, Laura brought "Clark" home. I was not able to download any photos of today's voyage so Laura entered these pics of Clark. I will post today's photos with tomorrow's blog.
Danette, Tucker, and I left the C & D canal at 7:30 this morning and not soon enough. The dockmaster warned us of the "Stinkbugs" when we docked and explained they are harmless, smell bad, plentiful , and UGLY. We were still finding them on board tonight when we docked.
The Chesapeake Bay is 178 miles from the C & D to Norfolk. Today we traveled the balance of the C & D plus 60 miles of the Chesapeake. The Bay can be divided into two types of water. The North end (above the Bay Bridge is shallow, loaded with crab pots, has well marked channels, and allows views of the shore on both sides. After the bridge it gets wide, deep, and there are no marked channels to speak of so we had to chart our course with parallel rules and paper charts (yes, I know how). The tide was with us and we traveled at a blazing 12 MPH arriving at Herring Harbor by 3:00. A major boat show is underway in Annapolis, we saw bunches of sail boats in that area as well as just about every other type of boat there is.
Note, Clark is sporting his brand new "puppy bumper" - it's a safeguard so he doesn't squeeze through the wrought iron fence and down the 55' cliff to the lake. |
He (Clark) is sooo cute!! I can't wait to see him! We are having alot of fun reading the blog and since we're in Hilton Head now, we'll check up on your dock! Hope the rain is gone by the time you get here.... Donna D.
