We caught sight of the New York skyline at 9:45, one hour after leaving the Haverstraw Marina dock. The crew was excited, I was nervous, Tucker was asleep. A half hour prior to spotting NY City we passed the Sing Sing Prison, for some reason I thought Sing Sing was located in the Far East or maybe off the Australian coast. Timeline for entering the New York Harbor: 10:30 - passed Palisades Park 11:15 - Cruised under the George Washington Bridge 12:15 - Across from Manhattan 12:50 - Docked at Liberty Landing Liberty Landing Marina is situated on the North side of the Liberty State Park in the Morris Canal Big Basin. The view to the South is Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty, to the East is Downtown Manhattan. We have a great view of the new World Trade Center Tower under construction. The Marina has two very nice restaurants and is in the center of the park with lots of grass for tucker to run in. I signed up for several days dockage as the Ocean is not cooperating with my plans (8 to 12 foot seas today and for the next couple of days). Atlantic City is a 90 mile voyage from here with 60 of that being in the ocean, we will wait for better conditions. For the record the famous New York Taxi drivers got their training from the New York Water Taxi Drivers !!!!! |
